About Pyrite in Irish Homes
Pyrite is a mineral found in some building stone and hardcore fill used in Irish homes, particularly during the construction boom years. When exposed to moisture and air, pyrite expands, causing floors to heave and cracks to appear in walls and floors.
Pyrite issues have affected thousands of homes across Ireland, especially in Dublin, Meath, Kildare, Offaly, Limerick, Tipperary, Mayo, Donegal and Waterford. Remediation involves removing affected material and replacing floors and sometimes foundations. In most cases, homeowners need to vacate the property while the work is carried out.
If your home is affected, you will likely be dealing with engineers, contractors and possibly the Pyrite Remediation Scheme or Defective Concrete Blocks Grant Scheme. Our job is to take care of everything inside the house so you can focus on the remediation itself.
